McDonald’s fights the breakfast war with free coffee? Really, lol?

In the ongoing fast-food breakfast war with rival Taco Bell, McDonald’s announced Friday that it will offer customers nationwide a free cup of McCafe coffee for two weeks! Sounds amazing doesn’t it? My thoughts exactly!

Anyway, McDonald’s announce that they will give breakfast customers a free 12-ounce small coffee. However, your local McDonald’s location will have to decide if the customers get just one cup or multiple refills of coffee. Just great huh?

McDonald’s latest ploy is a response to Taco Bell’s new breakfast menu, which it proclaimed the “largest menu expansion in Taco Bell’s 50-year history.”

I am betting that Taco Bell is trying to grab a huge share of McDonald’s breakfast sales. However, I don’t think that their roll out is going to put a dent in McDonald’s breakfast sales just yet. Be as it may, Taco Bell hopes that its new breakfast menu will offer something more than its typical afternoon menu to its customers while making ts chain more diverse overall.

McDonald’s response to Taco Bell’s new roll out with coffee honestly made me laugh because I thought they basically did this already? I mean seriously, if you want to get the attention of customers try giving them something free! Give customers a free biscuit with anything bought on the dollar menu and the coffee for 2 weeks or give customers a choice at one the standout items on the breakfast menu for $1 or $2. I think that would be the better route to go!

Something like that would definitely grab my attention on my morning commute to work. This free coffee idea is just not going to do it for me. I think they should go back to the drawing board on this. Anyway, what are you opinions on McDonald’s response to Taco Bell’s new menu?
